Founders Day 2011 "What A Great Time!" E-mail
Friday, 18 November 2011 11:17

I am happy to report that this years Founders day was a great time. If you missed it I’m sorry but you missed a great one. What made it so special? Simplicity! As has become routine as of late we had only a quick 5 minute program to give the group an update and the rest of the time was spent eating, hanging, BS’ing (the favorite pastime of all Beta Alpha’s) until we did Roll Call and sung the Rose.

Fernandes Steak house did a fine job once again at accommodating our every need. Most folks got the rodizio main course that is if they had any room after all those appetizers.

I would like to thank all that attended, that took the time out of their busy lives, to celebrate all that is Beta Alpha.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Beta Alpha July 2011 Update E-mail
Friday, 08 July 2011 10:55

Brothers,

I hope you and your Families are enjoying the summer of 2011. My son Joseph, who will be 2 in September, loves it. He has figured out he prefers the tallest slide in the playground, chasing after birds, watching the often passing Motorcycle, and getting the best views.  We are expecting our second son in September, so for my wife this summer can’t move along fast enough!

This summer for Beta Alpha has been and will continue to be one of hard work and accomplishment.  Chapter Advisor Dave White has set up a retreat for the Undergrads in August that will prepare them for the hard work of recruiting a Chapter that can excel and prosper on a campus with a brand new Greek Village. For Beta Alpha to fill a new chapter house in the future our numbers will have to grow. This retreat will help with recruiting, new member education, brotherhood building, chapter management and more.

Speaking of our future housing, we are in the process of challenging, evaluating and developing floor plans and project costs with the Greek Village developer, Monument.  We are at the starting point of what will hopefully bring us a state of the art design, maximizing usage while minimizing operational and construction costs. Monument will be presenting our chapter as well as the Greek community with their strategic plan in a couple of months. This plan will include all design options and costs for moving into the Greek Village. The strategic plan is intended to answer all of our questions.

To be included in the process we entered into an escrow agreement and good faith deposit of $7500. . After completion and our review of the strategic plan we will then be in a position to decide next steps.   If we proceed into a construction development contract with Monument and a long term lease with NJIT for a unit at the Greek Village, then the $7500 escrow funds will be credited toward costs. If Monument does not deliver the strategic plan or if the Greek Village project fails then our funds are protected and will be returned to us.  Assuming the Strategic Plan is in order, then the next step will be to negotiate a development agreement between NJIT, Monument and Beta Alpha.

We currently have committees reviewing the conceptual floor plans and financial proformas that Monument is providing. Every detail is being studied and tailored to our chapter’s needs. Negotiating escrow agreements and reviewing preliminary data takes a lot of man hours and a lot of dedication. I am extremely proud of our volunteers on the Board and its Committee’s for all the time and effort that is going into this project.

Our fund raising consultants, Laurus Group, are waiting to begin the campaign for our new chapterhouse as soon as the proper time arises. In the mean time we are loosely forming various steering committees to be ready when this process kicks off. If you would like to lend a hand drop me a note and we will find the right spot for you on the team.

For now have a great summer and like most Beta Alpha’s or future Beta Alpha’s, let’s go for the challenge and climb the highest slide in the playground.

Scholarships E-mail

The Peter A. Jensen Endowed Memorial Scholarship
- The scholarship was established in remebrance of Peter Jensen, a member of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity who lost his life as an undergraduate during the fall of 1970. Pete died because of a senseless act of violence that occurred on campus. The scholarship was created by the brotherhood of Pi Kappa Phi with the help of the entire NJIT/NCE Greek Community to honor Pete and to provide undergraduate educational support. Although the fund has grown slowly over the years the Board of Overseers would like to increase the fund principal to allow for increasing scholarship awards.

Please consider making a gift! You can write a check today!

Or you can mail your contribution at any time as follows:

Make check payable to: NJIT Foundation
Ensure you include on the memo line: Peter Jensen Scholarship
Mail to: Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity P.O. Box 4906 Clifton, NJ 07015

Al Brown Memorial Scholarship & Chapter Investment Fund - Everyone who remembers Brother Al Brown knows that he was a Beta Alpha to the core. “He was our Leader!” stated Brother Jim Krucher at this past founders’ day celebration. The scholarship in his name is given out each year to undergraduate brothers that meet a host of requirements for educational purposes. The fund is maintained and operated through the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation. The Board of Overseers would like to increase the fund principal to allow for increasing scholarship awards. When you make your annual donation to the foundation you can earmark it for Beta Alpha’s Al Brown Memorial Scholarship.

The Beta Alpha Chapter Investment Fund is the basic fund set up by the foundation for every chapter. Once the fund reaches over $10k it can then be tapped for scholarships for the undergraduate chapter. Currently that fund is up to about $3600.00. The Board of Overseers would like to increase the fund principal to allow for scholarship awards.

When you make your annual donation to the foundation you can earmark it for the Beta Alpha Chapter Investment Fund.

If you are currently giving to the foundation that money will be put in a fund and shared by every chapter in the fraternity which is great for the national fraternity, earmarking it for the beta alpha funds restricts its use for Beta Alpha.

How can you participate? Write a check to the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation and in the memo section write either: Al Brown Scholarship or Beta Alpha Chapter Investment Fund.

Or

When you are solicited by the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation for your annual donation in the memo section of your check write either: Al Brown Scholarship or Beta Alpha Chapter Investment Fund.
